A mother and her son are kicked out of their apartment and left out on the streets due to her husband gambling their house away.
Synopsis
After her husband goes missing, some people show up at her door and kick her and her son out of her apartment, claiming that they are now in possession of her apartment. She is left stranded outside, and with nowhere to turn to, she goes to her hometown to ask her brother, who she has not spoken to for 15 years for help.
Director’s Statement
‘Left Outside’ is a film about the fate of a woman that is an outcast to her own family, she is an outcast to society. It’s about the struggle a woman is put through only to have her voice heard so that she is not all forgotten.
This film follows the story of a woman named Elira, who is left outside in the streets without a home to go to. Her family has their backs turned on her because she has brought shame to them by running away from home and marrying someone that she loved, someone that her family was against. Her parents make it clear to her that if she chooses to marry that man that they forbid, she may never go back to her family ever again. She decides to choose her husband over her family, and that choice turns out to haunt her and that decision becomes a nightmare for her.
Her husband gradually starts getting in trouble, starts gambling, and frequently disappears for a couple of days leaving her and their son home alone. Until one day when he disappears, some men show up to her apartment door, and claim that her apartment now belongs to them and kick her out in the street. She is left now with one choice, to go back to her family for help.
Director’s Bio
Ibër Deari was born in Kumanova, Macedonia in 1990. He is a director and writer, known for My City Screams(2015), TOKA(2016), A long way Home(2017). Ibër Deari has been making films since high school and his works received numerous awards. His most recent directorial work is My City Screams. He has also written and directed several short films and documentaries. He studied at the Film School in the University of Audiovisual Arts ESRA in Skopje. He graduated in 2013 with the film LAST CONFESSION, and he graduated in the master studies in ESRA and received the title Master of Arts in the Department of Film Direction with the film TOKA (Land) and graduation study TO FILM OR NOT TO FILM.
