Montenegro Film Center finances 23 projects

The Film Centre of Montenegro has announced the results of its funding competition for short and feature-length fiction and documentary projects, as well as for screenplay development and project development.

In the best-endowed and most attractive section of short and feature-length fiction films, six projects have been awarded, including Dušan Kasalica’s The Elegy of Laurel (€220,000), Senad Šahmanović’s Sirin (€200,000), Isa Qosja’s Skype (€80,000), Marija Perović’s Breast (€35,000) and Milutin Darić’s Hit the Sky (€20,000).

The projects awarded financing for development are Forever Hold Your Peace by Ivan Marinović (The Black Pin [+]), Face of Honour by Nikola Vukčević (The Kids from the Marx and Engels Street) and Draško Djurović’s The Bay, having received €20,000 each. Mladen Ivanović’s The Rear Admiral has been given €10,000.

Among the documentaries, the director of the Venice International Film Critics’ Week title You Have the Night [+], Ivan Salatić, has received €7,000 for the short We Are the Sons of Your Rocks, while the feature-length documentary The Last Nomad by Petar Glomazić has secured €30,000.

Montenegrin public call for co-financing of Minority Co-productions 2018

A right to participate in the call shall have legal entities registered in the Register of Commercial Entities in Montenegro for performing cinematographic activities, of which the core activity is the cinematographic works production.

Legal entities referred to in the previous paragraph must be registered with the Register at least six months prior to the call announcement.

Legal entities may apply only one project in given category.

Registration of users and applications to the call shall be made through the Internet page of the Centre.  Access to the applications shall be made possible only upon the successful user’s registration.

Projects submitted for this call shall be evaluated on the basis of the following criteria:

  • Quality and originality of scenario
  • Innovative approach to addressing the topic
  • Possibility for international success of the film
  • Quality of director’s approach
  • Previous director’s success
  • Project’s feasibility (budget, terms, complexity)
  • Producer’s previous success / Montenegrin co-producer
  • Fund secured in advance from the national and international funds
  • Montenegrin share in the project.

The Decision on the results, at the proposal of the Commission, shall be adopted by the Council within 7 days from the date of the proposal submission.

The Centre shall be obliged to publish the results on its Internet page within 3 days from the date of the Decision.

The deadline for submitting the applications is until Monday, 30 July 2018, up to 12:00 hrs.
