A biographical stop-motion animation film following the extraordinary life of rebetiko musician Markos Vamvakaris (1905-1972), from his youth in Syros, to his fame in Pireas, and his decline.

Markos Vamvakaris, once famous, now a poor and forgotten musician, takes a journey from his home in Pireas to Perama in order to collect money playing in the streets accompanied by his seven years old son Stelios. The journey will be an occasion for Markos to remember significant moments of his life as he wanders around, both stimulated by the curiosity of the young Stelios and by the world around him. As Markos progresses in his journey we get to know more about him through different flashbacks: from the youth in Syros to the arrival in Pireas, from the first time he heard a bouzouki playing to the fame period with the Famous 4 of Pireas, from his marriages and painful love stories to his journeys around Greece.

When Markos arrives in Pireas no-one recognize him anymore or would leave any money on the small plate that Stelios carries around as Markos is playing his bouzouki. While playing in a cafe, Markos gets interrupted by a brand new jukebox playing modern music. Humiliated, he is forced to leave the cafe. By dawn, father and son didn’t manage to collect any money and they can’t even afford the bus ticket to go back home, so the only option left is walking and singing along all the way back.
