Three men are trying to find a way out from the void. One of them may have a solution, but the other two don’t believe that he (a third man) exists.
Synopsis
Two men (40), the First and the Second found themselves in an unknown space. The space is completely empty, like a limbo, an abyss, a purgatory. They are trying to figure out how they ended here, and how to find a way out. Soon, they came across a Third man. The first thinks that the Third is only his hallucination. The Second is not convinced of that, but he agreed with the opinion of the First. The third tries to present his theory about where they are, but the First and the Second do not allow it. After a long walk, they run into an invisible barrier – a wall. It turns out that they have encountered the wall several times already and that they cannot find a way out of this situation. The First and the Second despair, while the Third has a plan – if they can’t get out of that situation by walking, they should try to fly high. The First and the Second reject that plan and prefer to despair. The third decides to implement his idea on his own, makes a balloon with the help of chewing gum and flies to the heights. The First and the Second walk out, remaining desperately trapped in their problem. The third falls to the ground and the whole story starts to repeat itself.
Director’s Statement
Impasse is the space and the feeling at the same time. It is a metaphor for state in our post-war-post-socialism society. We are stuck, don’t know the way out, and can’t remember how we got here in the first place. Or, more correctly, we don’t want to remember. Impasse is a Becket-like dark humorous and absurd story which takes place literally nowhere. All three characters are played by the same actor. They have different characters, and represent different flows in our very divided society. My intention is that through one fantastic and absurd situation show how I see the current situation. And, I am sure that this will be well recognized in all our Balkan. post socialistic societies. Film ends in exactly the same way as it starts, making an infinite loop.
